Administering Cisco Unified Communications Manager (ACUCM) v12.0 is a 4-day course that gives system administrators and networking professionals a solid understanding of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager platform. Topics include IP telephony concepts, clustering, phone and user creation, route plans, digit manipulation, media resources, and phone features. The course addresses both Level 1 and Level 2 support scenarios, ranging from day-to-day user support and moves, adds, and changes to larger organizational changes like opening new office locations. Students reinforce each concept through hands-on lab exercises conducted on a freshly installed publisher and subscriber environment.

Course Outline
Module 1: Introduction to IP Telephony
Introduces IP telephony concepts by comparing traditional voice with IP telephony and reviewing clustering fundamentals, intracluster communications, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager cluster options and platform requirements. Reviews deployment models including single-site, centralized, distributed, distributed single-cluster, hybrid, and advanced multicluster configurations. Covers multisite features such as call admission control (CAC), Automated Alternate Routing (AAR), Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST), and SRST failover.
Module 2: Basic Configuration
Walks through logging in to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, Unified Serviceability, Operating System Administration, and the Disaster Recovery System (DRS), including the navigation menu and command-line interface. Covers basic server configuration to remove DNS dependency and how to set enterprise parameters. Explains multilevel administration, including creating end users, roles, and user groups, and assigning users to those groups. Also covers DRS backup and restore procedures.
Module 3: User Administration
Covers user management concepts and the steps involved in configuring users. Explains the purpose and use of the user web pages.
Module 4: Phone Registration and Cisco Unified IP Phones
Covers system parameter configuration including Cisco Unified CM settings, Unified Communications Manager group setup, phone NTP and date/time group configuration, codecs and regions, location and device pool settings, DHCP service, device defaults, clusterwide parameters, and licensing. Reviews Cisco Unified IP phones including an overview of available models, specialized 7900 series phones, phone button templates, and softkey templates. Covers the phone registration process and IP phone communications, and introduces the Bulk Administration Tool (BAT) and TAPS.
Module 5: Basic Route Plan Configuration
Covers dial plan connectivity including organizational dial plan structure, trunks, and gateways. Addresses route plan creation including a dial plan overview, route pattern concepts, digit collection, and call routing logic.
Module 6: Route Filters and Digit Manipulation
Covers how to configure translation patterns, the 9.@ pattern, and route filters. Explains digit manipulation techniques including discard digit instructions, transformation masks, and how to use the route plan report.
Module 7: Class of Control
Explains class of control concepts including partitions, CSS configuration, and PLAR application. Covers class of control features such as call restriction, time-of-day routing, and the differences between the traditional approach and the line/device approach.
Module 8: Media Resources
Defines media resources including conference bridges, media termination points, transcoders, music on hold, and the annunciator. Covers media resource management, including how to configure Media Resource Groups (MRGs) and Media Resource Group Lists (MRGLs).
Module 9: Features and Services
Covers core call features including call park, call pickup, Cisco Call Back, and shared lines with barge and privacy. Explains hunt group configuration including line groups, hunt lists, hunt pilots, and final forwarding settings. Describes Cisco IP Phone Services and how to configure them.
